Raphael Dressler war zu Lebzeiten offensichtlich ein so renommierter Flötist, dass seine Flötenschule op. 68 in den Jahren 1827/28 von mehreren Verlegern nahezu zeitgleich sowohl in London, Bonn als auch New York veröffentlicht wurde. Sein kompositorisches Schaffen umfasst hauptsächlich Werke für und mit Flöte. Mit den hier zum ersten Mal wiederveröffentlichten `Variations sur un Thème hongré` folgt Dressler dem etwa um 1790 erwachten Interesse an ungarischer Musik, das seine Spuren auch im Schaffen Haydns, Beethovens oder Schuberts hinterlassen hat. Das hier verabeitete Thema ist kein bestimmtes Stück, sondern eine volkstümliche Tanzmelodie im ungarischen Stil // In his time, Raphael Dressler must have been a flutist of such renown that his flute tutor op 68 was published nearly simultaneously by several publishers in London, Bonn and New York in 1827/28. His compositions were mainly written for and played by the flute. His `Variations sur un thème hongré`, re-released here for the first time, reflect the interest in Hungarian music kindled around 1790 which also left its traces in the works of Haydn, Beethoven or Schubert.The theme arranged here is not a particular piece, but rather a traditional dance melody in the Hungarian style
