Further information

  • Description:

The pieces in this volume will assist in mastering contrapuntal thinking and the technique necessary for playing polyphony. Their compilation is intended for progressive study, each piece being either easy or of intermediate difficulty both technically and as regards the part-playing. They can act as good preparatory studies for the more complicated and difficulty contrapuntal music of Bach - the inventions and fugues. The selections in this book range from the organ works of Diruta at the end of the sixteenth century up to piano pieces by Bartok, with no intention of illustrating the history of polyphony. At the same time, the selection provides an introduction to many diverse forms and genres (ricercar, canzona, fugue, canon, verset, invention, etc.). The collection may by used not just by pianist, but by harpsichordists and organists as well.
  • Contents:

12 Ricercari (Girolamo Diruta) - 2 Fugen (Wilhelm Friedemann Bach) - 2 Kanons (Max Reger) - 2 Piano Pieces In Fughetta Form, Op 126 No 1,5 (Robert Schumann) - 3 Fugen (Mikhail Glinka) - 3 Fugen, Op 78 No 1-3 (Nikolai Mjaskowski) - 4 Solfeggi (Angelo Berta
