First Rhapsody and Small Room
DEBUSSY

Originally intended for the final clarinet examination of the Paris Conservatory of Music, the "First Rhapsody" quickly became a hit piece from the clarinet repertoire - it was a highly impressed work in which the composer handled in an astonishing manner. the sound possibilities of the instrument. The success was so striking that Debussy would later transcribe the piano accompaniment for orchestra - and in this form, the "Rhapsody" is played today in concert halls around the world. And then, "icing on the cake", our edition also offers the charming "Little Piece", this short piece not even reaching 40 measures, full of originality, originally designed actually for the reading test at view of the final exam. But you have to see the advantage that Debussy draws from it! _
