Carmen is a tragic opera in four acts by Georges Bizet, on a libretto by Henri Meilhac and Ludovic Halévy, according to the new Carmen, by Prosper Mérimée. The first performance took place under the direction of Adolphe Deloffre.
Created March 3, 1875 at the Opéra-Comique in Paris, it is one of the most played operas in the world.
