After the publication of our revised facsimile of the B minor Sonata (HN 3227) in 2015, we also present the corresponding Urtext edition in a completely reworked form. Thanks to the brilliant reproduction of the facsimile, some passages of the autograph could thus be examined in a more reliable way - besides, the publisher, Ernst Herttrich, not only consulted the first edition but also the copy of a student of Liszt annotated by the composer himself. Clara Schumann, to whom Liszt had sent the Sonata, reacts with incomprehension: "It is only blind noise - not the least healthy idea, everything is confused". Today we are far from this judgment. The refined fingerings of eminent pianist Marc-André Hamelin further enhance our new edition of this major work of piano literature.
