Sonata in G Major - Violin and piano

Encouraged by Béla Bartók's violin sonatas, Ravel considered writing his own sonata for violin and piano in 1922, but did not go beyond sketches at first. After several interruptions, the work was finished in 1927 only and dedicated to her violinist friend, Hélène Jourdan-Morhange. His austere writing and the type of training employed later made Ravel say with relevance that this sonata provided proof of the incompatibility of the sonorities of the violin with those of the piano. However, it has carved out a prominent place in the violin repertoire - in particular thanks to its central "Blues" movement inspired by jazz. The fingerings of this Henle Urtext edition were affixed by two masters of their respective instruments: Christian Tetzlaff and Pascal Rogé.
