The opus number of Easy Sonatas for Piano op. Beethoven's 49 is misleading. Indeed, these pieces were composed shortly after the sonatas op. 2 and partly before the sonata op. 7. Sketches of it can be found in the notebook "Kafka" used by Beethoven for several years in both Bonn and Vienna until the late 1790s. Sonata No. 2 is probably the older of the two . Subsequently, Beethoven used the theme of the 2nd movement, Tempo di Minuetto, also for the minuet of the septet op. 20. It is one of his most famous works for piano that pianist students usually tackle early on in their journey.
