Now, with the release of the second volume, the "Slavonic Dances" are available in full Urtext version. After the great success of the first series op. 46, which had earned the composer all over the world a celebrity, the publisher had insisted on getting the follow up. It was only eight years later that Dvo? Ák went to work, announcing: "I think they will all be different." And indeed the difference is obvious: this second series is characterized by greater formal freedom and higher harmony in color. While the opus 46 was above all marked by an overflowing joie de vivre (HN 757), the opus 72 also makes hear lighter sounds: melancholy and poetry enter the world of exuberant dance.
