Not only during his virtuoso years but also during the Weimar period, from 1848, Liszt composed a series of operatic paraphrases, however not for himself but for his friend Hans von Bülow, pianist (and son-in-law). Among these works, the paraphrase of "Rigoletto" by Giuseppe Verdi, published in 1860, occupies a special place due to its incredible virtuosity combined with a filigree texture. On the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the composer's birth, Éditions G. Henle is presenting, alongside the Urtext edition of this work (HN 978), a facsimile edition, extensively commented, of the autograph. As this is a working manuscript, this facsimile also provides a fascinating insight into Liszt's working method.
