Bourrée Fantasque

While many French composers of his time tried to renew the great forms of instrumental music, Chabrier favored small forms, such as dance or character pieces. The crowning of the composer's work for piano, the "Fantastic Bourrée" was born in 1891. Once rigorously regulated, this lively court dance is enriched with unusual harmonies and rhythms, thus appearing in a completely new light. . Published here for the first time in a critical edition taking into account all available sources, the "Bourrée fantasque" is particularly representative of Chabrier's style, oscillating between nostalgia, avant-garde and parody.
