Goldberg Variations

Undoubtedly the most important keyboard cycle of the 18th century, the "Goldberg" Variations had such a reach that only, in the 19th century, the "Diabelli" Variations of Beethoven could be compared to them. The autograph manuscript of Bach is not kept, but we have the original corrected impression by the hand of the composer of the „Aria mit verschiedenen Veraenderungen vors Clavicimbal mit 2 Manualen (Aria with different variations for the harpsichord with two keyboards) , as mentioned on the title page. This original edition serves as the main basis for our edition, but was also compared with other sources, such as for example the "Aria" (the title is different here) found in the Notenbüchlein für Anna Magdalena and containing annotations from the Bach's own hand.
