DEBUSSY

This well-known piano piece by young Debussy was published as the third (slow) movement of the four movements of his Suite bergamasque (HN 381). Despite its rather conventional harmony, this music with delicate tones and delicate melody already announces Debussy's late style. Although the sequel was not published until 1905, the inscription of the year of composition ("1890") made by Debussy in the cupboard proofs of the engraving indicates that it is indeed a older work. His agreement for publication shows, however, that he was still identified in this work dating from an era that had long been outdated from a stylistic point of view.
