It is through these works, the most important among Debussy's early works, that the G. Henle publishing house began in 1983 its series of editions of Debussy's piano pieces. The huge success of this edition is still not denied. The Arabesques probably appeared shortly before their publication in November 1891. Welcomed lukewarm when it was published, the work became, after 1906, one of the most popular of the composer and it now circulates in all sorts of transcriptions for other instruments. The elegance and ease of ornamentation of the first Arabesque, which despite its constant movement gives the impression of a certain statism, ensures the piece a place of choice both in the repertoire of professional pianists, as well as in the ambitious amateurs.
