Cello Concerto in D major Hob. VIIb: 2

In Joseph Haydn's time, solo concertos were generally intended for a specific musician. In the case of the famous cello concerto in D major Hob. VII: 2 by Haydn, this is the first cello of Prince Esterházy's orchestra, Anton Kraft, who later became one of the greatest virtuosos in Vienna. This work of circumstance subsequently became a masterpiece for eternity, from which posterity has come down an autograph score by the composer dated 1783. For the publication of the piano reduction of this concerto, we we had the pleasure of collaborating with Haydn specialist Sonja Gerlach. The latter enriches the urtext edition with a detailed preface in which it addresses in particular the subject of making ornaments and that of the cadences reproduced.
