Claude Debussy was born in Saint-Germain-en-Laye, in 1862.
He studied piano with Mme Mante de Fleurville, a student of Chopin and Verlaine's mother-in-law.
At the age of 22, he won the Prix de Rome and became the secretary of Mme von Meck, protector of Tchaikovsky, traveled to Europe, met Brahms, Schumann, Wagner and Mallarmé and his literary cenacle.
An extraordinary harmonist, an excellent pianist, an exceptional orchestrator, Debussy creates a new musical language.
He is one of the great emancipators of Western music. He died in Paris at the age of 56.
