29 nursery rhymes, songs and lullabies from China and Asia (Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, South Korea, Japan, Thailand). We find the national languages of each country but also the regional languages like the xian of the south of China as well as dialects of the north, and the south of Vietnam. The instrumentation gives pride of place to traditional Asian instruments: the raucous sounds of the khene, Laotian mouth organ, Cambodian khong, yangkin or Chinese zither close to the Hungarian cymbalum, the pipa, the hawker very widespread in China or in Vietnam, the erhu, a Chinese violin with a languorous sound, used in Chinese opera, the shamisen nicknamed Japanese banjo, three-stringed lute, the shakuhachi flute, whose sounds unique in the world inspired Buddhist monks and endures in contemporary music, the koto is also in the spotlight, Japanese zither and many others… The illustrations by Claire Degans are dreamlike and delicate. They camp mothers who rock their children with great tenderness, landscapes like prints and fascinating animals. Its pastel colors, its camaieux, its very matte solids perfectly reflect the serenity and poetry of the book-disc.
